Katsina state Governor Dikko Umar Radda has flagged off the distribution of farm inputs and irrigation pumps to more than 2000 dry season farmers in the state to boost food production and wealth creation.
This was done at dikke irrigation site in Funtua local government area, and was attended by representatives of farmers across the state to give their blessings to the event.
The large number of farmers indicates a gradual return of peace to farming communities that have suffered a lot from banditry and kidnapping over the years.
Many farm lands have remained uncultivated for years due to relentless attacks on farmers by bandits and kidnappers.
This has not only threatened the occupation of the vast majority but also the food security of the nation.
This is why Governor Dikko Radda says his administration is determined to return majority of the farmers back to their land through out the year.
The farm inputs distributed include fertilizer improved vegetable seed and solar water pumps.
Katsina’s dry season farming contributes a lot in the supply of tomatoes and other vegetables to the country’s food market.
The state government in collaboration with the 34 local Government councils will also provide capacity building and agricultural extension services to the farmers to stimulate high yield.
