Zamfara state Directorate of Rural Water Supply says plans are underway to ensure adequate and portable water supply in rural areas across the state.
Acting Executive secretary of the Directorate Lawal Sanusi stated this at a Policy ideation meeting with stakeholders held in Gusau, Zamfara state.
The Policy ideation meeting is in collaboration with UNICEF aimed at providing water supply to rural areas.
UNICEF representative at the meeting George Ubong says the event is to support the state Government in the formulation of water supply and sanitation sector policy.
He adds that it is also an avenue to bring together stakeholders to brainstorm on what is considered as water policy direction.
“The meeting is for stakeholders to come together and brainstorm on water policy direction for Zamfara state” Ubong Said.
” We were also able to review the policy framework for the administration of the sector ” He added.
“One of the follow up actions of the meeting will be a consultation meeting with non Government actors, private sector, Civil society organizations, non governmental organizations, traditional and religious leaders and other informal sectors in water supply sector” Ubong explained.
Mr. George noted that one that is done, Zamfara state Directorate of rural water supply will have an authentic draft policy that will work on and formalize as a policy for water supply.
The benefits at the end of the review meeting according to him will provide the Zamfara state government through the rural water supply Directorate to implement strategy which is refer to as policy statement.
“Some of the policies will demand legal backing, meaning it will require the state House of Assembly to enact a law on it”.
” I will advice that the water supply sector and sanitation sector is administered in good oriented manner”.
“Policy Making is one of the ways that government will make it’s intention clear so that all can understand the direction the program is going” Ubong Maintained.
