The Federal Government is unveiling plans to eliminate criminal elements from Nigerian forests.
To address this issue, the government is preparing to deploy security forces to safeguard both the forests and communities, ensuring progress in the vital Great Green Wall initiative.
Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, made this announcement in Kaduna during a two-day top management retreat organized by the ministry.
The Minister emphasised that while existing Park Rangers and Forest Guards are in place, they are insufficient to effectively combat bandits and criminals.
Minister Lawal also highlighted the dangers posed by harmful environmental practices, emphasizing the need for a collective effort to discontinue activities detrimental to the environment.
