The Commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA Sokoto state Command, Iro Mohammed has described the collaboration between his agency with the Nigeria Customs as effective in the fight against drug peddling and other violent crimes in the north West zone.
He stated this at the headquarters of the Sokoto-Zamfara Area Command of the Nigeria Customs where over sixty sacks of cannabis sativa seized by operatives of the Nigeria Customs was handed over to the NDLEA.
Custom Area Controller, Musa Omale said the Memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the Nigeria Customs Service and NDLEA to combat trafficking of drugs and other controlled substances in the country is yielding the desire result as bandits and other terrorists no longer have free access to illicit drugs.
He said the role illicit drugs and controlled substance play in exacerbating banditry, crimes and insurgency in the country called for a collaborative effort to fight it.
Mr. Omale said trafficking of hard drugs is a Global scourge with which the whole world is grappling with and can only be defeated through joint cooperation and collaboration of this kind.
