Residents of Osun State have frowned at the meager allocation of 3.7 and 2.9 billion naira earmarked to the Agriculture and solid mineral resources sectors in the 2024 budget by the state Government.
This is just as the State Government refuted the news making the rounds that eight billion naira is earmarked for meals in the office of the Governor in the 2024 Budget.
On the 9th of November, 2023, the State Governor, Ademola Adeleke presented the 2024 budget estimate of over 273 billion naira before the state House of Assembly.
The budget consists of 109.8 billion naira as capital expenditure and 164 billion naira as recurrent expenditure.
Infrastructure Sector has the lion share with 57 billion naira representing 20.8% while Governance and administration sector received 24 billion naira representing 8.8% of the Budget.
Education has 38.9 billion naira representing 14% while the Agriculture Sector received one of the lowest allocation with 3.7 billion naira representing 1.3% of the total budget.
Addressing Journalists in Osogbo, Professor Maruf Adeleke said only six hundred million naira is earmarked for meals in the office of the Governor and not eight billion naira as being speculated.
The State Commissioner for finance says the state now generates about two billion naira monthly.
The Commissioner says the budget performance for the 2023 is 85% with a promise to improve on it in 2024.
