The police say a kidnap kingpin and two members of his gang have been killed.
Mai-Gemu as he is popularly known was killed by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team on the outskirts of Bwari in Abuja.
The pressure on the police to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities came in the wake of growing threats to national security.
A Friday morning operation by the Intelligence Response Team resulted in the killing of the kidnapping gang leader and his boys.
Other suspects from Abuja and Zamfara are being held for kidnapping and gun running.
Elsewhere, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohammed Dauda is recuperating from gunshot wounds.
He led the police team on a rescue operation for the Al-Kadriyah sisters, before the girls were whisked away by the bandits.
The security situation is constantly evolving. And a lot is expected of the security force in curbing the threats.
