The Nigerian Senate has set up an Adhoc Committee to investigate the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited and the National iron Ore Mining Company in Kogi State between 2008 to date.
The upper legislative Chamber also urged the Federal Government to review the extant policies and laws on steel development in Nigeria with a view to adopting a strategic implementation plan on steel development .
The Senate’s resolution is sequel to a motion presented at Plenary by the lawmaker representing Kogi Central , Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan .
Senator Natasha presented a motion on the urgent need to investigate allegations of corruption and inefficiency at the Ajaokuta Steel Company and the National iron ore Mining Company located in Kogi state .
The lawmaker lamented that the steel companies have remained inoperative and unable to produce steel despite efforts by several Administrations
Other lawmakers while contributing to the motion raised concerns on the moribund state of the steel companies despite a hefty wage bill allocated for its operations .
