Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Umo Eno has launched Arise Food Security Programme for the vulnerable to cushion the effect of the economic situation.
The programme is a short-term intervention scheme that will work along with the Back-to-Farm Initiative to ensure availability, affordability & price reduction of food items in the markets.
Days after inaugurating the Board of the State Bulk Purchase Agency, Governor Umo Eno is walking the talk by flagging off and presenting food vouchers at the popular Itam market in Uyo,Akwa Ibom state capital as promised.
Itam market is about the biggest market in Uyo capital city and this explains the choice of the market for the official flag off.
The initiative aims to make staple food available to the less privileged members of the society at a reduced rate. It is one of the temporary measures taken by the UMO ENO administration to address the prevailing food inflation in the country.
Enthusiastic market women, men and youths turn the event to a celebration of sorts as they sing and dance to welcome the governor and his entourage.
The chairman state Bulk Purchasing Agency, Dan Akpan says the program by the governor is meant to reduce the suffering of the people as a result of the prevailing food inflation in the country.
Gov Eno warned against any actions that would hamper the success of the program as it will significantly reduce the current economic hardship faced by the people.
