Nigeria is currently operating the 6-3-3-4 education system which is structured to produce graduates that will be productive and add value.
By this system, it is expected that a child should gain admission into higher institution at age 18.
But this is not the case today as candidates younger than age 16 are now seen writing entrance examination into higher institutions.
Members of Senate committee on Tertiary institutions and Tetfund while monitoring the ongoing 2024 UTME in Abuja as part of its oversight functions says, it will come up with legislation to ensure an age limit for entrance into higher institutions in Nigeria.
This is coming after the Minister of education says the Federal Government is considering reviewing entry age into tertiary institutions to 18 years.
Sixteen years old Arida Victory feels the decision will not be fair to Candidates like her who enrolled in school at a very young age.
The 2024 UTME which commenced on the 19th is expected to end on the 29th of April, 2024.
