The stage is now set for a battle between two former Deputy Governors to late Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu in the November 16 Governorship election in the state.
This followed the emergence of Agboola Ajayi as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, after the party’s primary election, pitching him against the incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The International Culture and Events Centre, popularly known as the Dome, was the venue of the governorship primary election of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Ondo State.
Accreditation of delegates by the governorship primary election committee, headed by the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo took place as scheduled.
Security agents were on hand to ensure law and order at the International Culture and Events Centre, Akure venue of the primary.
Voting began in earnest, as delegates moved into the venue to cast their ballots.
Thereafter, the votes were sorted and counted, with Agboola Ajayi emerging victorious, after polling 264 votes to beat six other aspirants.
His closest rival, Kolade Akinjo scored 157 votes, while a former Secretary-General of Afenifere, Sola Ebiseni scored 99 votes to come third.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Ajayi urged his co-contestants to see the contest as a family affair.
The emergence of Ajayi signals a great governorship contest between Ajayi and the incumbent Governor Aiyedatiwa, in a battle tagged as the clash of two former Deputy governors and lawyers.
