According to Amnesty International, over 2,600 people have died due to insecurity in Benue State, with over 50 rural communities seeing 135 attacks in the past year.
These data released was recorded between January 2023- February 2024, adding that the deaths were mainly women and children.
According to Amnesty international, 18 out of the 23 Local Government Areas have been affected by insecurity, leading to displacement of people, some kidnapped and others raped.
Also, over 80 per cent of the farming populations in Agatu, Guma and Gwer West have been displaced, with no access to their farmland or any means of livelihood.
The organisation called on the federal government, to halt and investigate the attacks, and ensure justice for victims as over 489 thousand Internal Displaced Persons were captured in camp from March 2023 to date.
It is expected that after this deliberation, a resolution will be reached in establishing strategies that will be adopted in ensuring peace within the state.
