As the United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse draws nearer, the Kwara state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, says it has arrested three hundred sixty three (363) suspects in the first half of this year.
Briefing newsmen in his office, the NDLEA commandant in the state, Mr Ibrahim Bashir, also says seventy-five (75) suspects have so far been convicted.
Briefing newsmen on the activities of the agency in the state in the last six months, the Kwara state commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mr Ibrahim Bashir disclosed that the collaboration
with the state government has yielded fruitful results.
Through “Operation Gbalumo” and other activities of the agency, the commandant said successes have been recorded in the fight against illicit drugs.
This was corroborated by the Chairperson, Kwara State Drug Control Committee and the Special Assistant to the Governor on drug abuse and prevention.
The command promises to continue to intensify efforts on drug demand reduction through sensitization of students and other critical stakeholders.
This year’s United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse holds on the 26th of June with the theme: “The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention” .
