Orgainsed Labour in Rivers State has condemned the blockade of Local Government Area Secretariats by the Police.
They are raising concerns about its impact on workers and the well-being of the state.
The cordoning off of the Secretariats has been on for almost one week.
The police chose that course of action due to the violence triggered by the controversy over the tenure of the council chairmen.
Labour leaders acknowledge the need to maintain peace but said that depriving workers’ access to their duty posts has negatively impacted productivity.
Organised Labour in the State wants the police to reconsider its approach, saying council workers do not pose any threat.
While the police say the secretariats would remain cordoned off until the court gives judgement in the case.
They also condemned the call for a state of emergency, saying those
making the demand do not mean well for Rivers State.
