The National Council on climate Change has promised to support various States Governments in advancing just transition in Country.
This came to fore at the opening of A-day workshop on ‘Empowering communities through inclusive and just transitions’ held in Osogbo, the Osun state capital.
Just transition is a framework developed by the trade union movement to encompass a range of social interventions needed to secure workers’ rights and livelihoods when economies are shifting to sustainable production, primarily combating climate change and protecting biodiversity
This non-governmental organization is now bringing the conversation to Osun State to ensure that the state does not fall behind in the transition to a low-carbon, environmentally sustainable economy.
The strategy also calls for a community-based approach to climate change and just transition.
Jummai Vandu, a representative of the National Council on Climate Change, discussed attempts to bring all states on board with the subject of climate change.
The state Government says it is open for partnership in an effort to address the challenges of climate change.
Participants say the program has provided opportunity to understand benefits of just transition.
