The U.S. Agency for International Development has named Nollywood actress Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha as its inaugural Goodwill Ambassador for Nutrition in Nigeria.
According to the USAID, malnutrition remains a significant challenge in Nigeria, with severe acute malnutrition affecting 3.6 million children.
It also contributed to 50 per cent of all deaths among children under five.
Although there have been concerted efforts to mitigate malnutrition in the past, more cases are still being recorded in the country. This is another collaboration with the Nigerian and U.S. governments, through USAID.
Gathered here are US government officials, representatives of the Nigerian government and friends of Nollywood actress, Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha.
It was a beautiful and historic evening for Nollywood actress Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha, as she promises to take on maternal, child health and nutrition, and inspire a nationwide movement towards better nutrition and health for all Nigerians.
Just being here and picturing what her role as the USAID goodwill ambassador for nutrition will be, brought back memories of her mother.
USAID leads international development and humanitarian efforts to save lives, reduce poverty and strengthen democratic governance.
