The Chief Justice Of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, says misleading and conflicting judgment as well as frivolous interlocutory orders emanating from courts of coordinate jurisdiction is an embarrassment to the country’s jurisprudence.
He made this statement at the Supreme Court while swearing in 22 justices to the Court of Appeal and 12 judges to the FCT High Court.
Among the 22 justices sworn into the Court of Appeal, bench is Justice Olukayode Adeniyi who on January 8th 2024 at the FCT high court Maitama voided the detention of former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Godwin Emefiele and ordered his release.
He also imposed a N100M fine on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for detaining Mr Emefiele beyond the period allowed by law.
Also sworn to the Appellate court is the wife of the Minister of FCT Eberechi Nyesom-wike and Oyewumi Oyebola who in one of her judgments at the National Industrial Court re-affirmed Innocent Bola-Audu as the president of the Association of Senior civil servants of Nigeria.
The CJN after swearing in three justices urged them to be upright in their justice delivery to Nigerians without fear or favour.
Shortly after the court rose and reconvened for the swearing-in of 12 judges to the FCT high court.
Among these judges are Victoria Oluwakemi Ariwoola, Munirat Ibrahim-Tanko and 10 others.
The CJN also urged them to be upright in their conduct and not swayed by any external influence.
Governor of Anambra State Charles Soludo believes the judiciary has done well and remains the last hope of the common man.
The CJN says Punitive measures will be implemented against any judge found to be putting personal interests above the interests of justice.
