Civil Society Organisations have appealed to the executive Governor of Sokoto state, Ahmad Aliyu to preserve the revered seat of the Sultan and avoid any political sentiment that will demean the influence of the Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar.
This was disclosed at a press conference in Abuja
In recent times, there has been what seems like power tussles between governors and traditional rulers especially in the northern part of the country.
Kano state is a clear example where former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje deposed the emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sanusi in March 2020.
And in May 2024, the current Governor of Kano state Abba Kabiru Yusuf deposed the emir of Kano , Aminu Ado Bayero .
These scenarios , has prompted speculations that there is an alleged plot by Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu to dethrone the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Saad Abubakar, but this has been debunked by the State Government .
This why CSOs are calling on political leaders across the country to intervene and restore peace , stability to the community .
They assure Nigerians that they will continue to speak out against injustice until the attempt to dethrone the Sultan is reversed as they believe traditional Institutions are sacred and must be protected .
The group wants the Government of Sokoto state to work in unity and brotherhood with the emirate in order to resolve this issue .
