The Nigerian Customs Service has seized a large consignment of smuggled goods worth more than 11 billion naira in Rivers State.
The items include prescription drugs smuggled into the country through the Onne Port.
Area 2 command in Onne, Eleme Local Government Area is celebrating another success in the war against illegal importation through the seaports.
They say their increased vigilance paid off in the tracking of containers containing items such as regulated cough syrups, performance enhancement drugs and pain relief medication.
The customs service says it will not relent from the job of curbing economic sabotage and revenue leakages caused by smuggling.
The market value of the seizure is put at 11.2 billion naira.
As the suspects whose identities were not revealed count their losses for flouting import regulations, they also risk jail term.
On its mid-year review, the Area 2 command says it has generated 312 billion naira, representing 51 percent of its annual revenue target.
