The federal government says remittances from Nigerians in diaspora totaled $29.9 billion in 2023, up from $20 billion in 2022, which they say will benefit the country’s economy.
This was revealed at the national diaspora 2024 day, which had the theme; Japa phenomenon and its significance for national development.
It was a day to celebrate Nigerians in diaspora.
They gathered from all over the world to celebrate the heritage of their homeland
Dressed in their different attires from the Americas, Europe, Australia and other African countries who have traced their roots to Nigeria.
In her welcome address, the chairman, CEO NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri recognised the investment of Nigerians in diaspora, but wants the govt to increase the budget of the commission in 2025
Representing the president of Nigeria is the secretary to the federal government , who highlighted the importance of diaspora remittances
USAID on their part says the investment of persons in the diaspora are very important for the development of the nation
The opportunities opened up to the diaspora can’t be overlooked, but the chance for them to participate in voting is also very important create a conducive environment for economic development.
