The Governor of Benue, Hyacinth Alia has assured the people of Sankera in Ukum Local Government Area, that his administration will ensure that normalcy return to the area.
The Governor who spoke through the Deputy Governor, Sam Ode made this known during an on the spot assessment in Zaki biam to ascertain the level of destruction in the area by some people who claimed to be protesters.
Benue’s Deputy Governor visited Ukum to access the level of damage done by the protesters and to understand their grievances.
He promised to make sure everyone involved in the ugly incident that led to the loss of lives and property is arrested and brought to book to serve as deterrence to others.
Mr. Ode condemned the actions, describing it as barbaric and reiterated that government will not tolerate anything other than peace, security of lives and property.
Reacting, the state’s police commissioner stated that security personnel are on top of the issue and have informed the public that normalcy has returned to the region, assuring them that there is no cause for concern.
Two victims, the chaplain of St. Paul Nursery, Primary & Secondary School and the District Head of Borkyo whose wife and children were burnt in his house narrated their experience.
The affected places includes: Ukum LG Secretariat; INEC office; Government college, Zaki biam; Benue State High Court; Benue Links Park; St Paul Nursery, Primary and Secondary school, Magistrate Court, Police station among others.
