Youth, Socialists and Civil Society groups have announced the Ikeja Under Bridge as the take-off point for the 1st of August protest in Lagos.
This is in response to the request by the Inspector-General of Police that organisers should share locations for the planned nationwide protests.
In a joint press briefing in Lagos, the groups announced details of the planned protests, scheduled to take place between 1st and 10th of August.
During the press briefing, the National Coordinator of
Education Rights Campaign, Taiwo Soweto explained that the EndBadGovernanceInNigeria movement is meant to call attention of government to the prevailing hunger and hardship in the country.
Some of their demands are the reversal of fuel prices to pre-May 29, 2023 level, reversal of electricity tariff to pre-may 29, 2023 level, end to school fees hike, fixing public refineries and building new ones under democratic workers’ control and management, creation of decent jobs and payment of unemployment benefit to those unemployed amongst others
