The House Of Representatives have asked the Federal Government to suspend the Samoa Agreement and its implementation until all contentious clauses in the agreement are addressed.
The House gave this directive during plenary against the backdrop of the controversy generated by the signing of the Samoa agreement by the Federal Government with the European Union.
The motion to suspend the implementation of the agreement was sponsored by 88 members of the House as a matter of urgent National Importance.
The Federal Government had last week signed the Samoa Agreement that focuses on 5 key issues of development between the European Union, African Nations and the Caribbean popularly known as OACP Territories.
The main point of contention in the agreement is a clause which allegedly will compel signatory nations to approve Lesbianism, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer otherwise known as LGBTQ as sexual orientation.
The Nigerian constitution and the nations’ laws outlaw any union that is not between a Man and Woman with a 14 year sentence prescribed in the laws for anybody who practices such.
