The Ogun State police command says it has rescued three Indians and a Nigerian who were kidnapped on Sunday by suspected gunmen at Delabo junction on the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode expressway.
CP Abiodun Alamutu, the Commissioner of Police, stated this at a news conference held at the command’s headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The commissioner also hinted that two of the kidnappers were eliminated.
Mr Alamutu stated that the suspects were located through a covert operation in a bush where they were hiding.
The police commissioner added that upon noticing the police officers’ flashlight, the criminals engaged in a gun battle with the law enforcement team.
He stressed that the Anti-kidnapping squad’s superior firepower led to the elimination of two suspects, while the remaining criminals escaped with injuries, leaving behind their weapons.
He said that the victims identified as one Nigerian and three Indian nationals, were safely rescued unharmed and reunited with their families.
He disclosed that items recovered includes 109 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, five AK 47 Rifles , eight AK 47 magazines and two cell phones,” he said.
Mr Alamutu stated that the police remain dedicated to safeguarding lives and property of citizens
He said that a rapid response team had been deployed to enhance security along the Sagamu-Benin route.
He also called on members of the public to report any person or persons displaying or treating gunshot wounds within the area.
