The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC has appealed to its members to boycott the August first planned nationwide protest over alleged bad governance.
The APC says there are clear indications that the planned nationwide protest might likely be hijacked by hoodlums.
The warning was issued in a press statement signed by the Zamfara APC chairman, Tukur Dan Fulani and made available to newsmen in Gusau
This move follows the outcome of the meeting of the APC State executive Council members of the thirty six states and the FCT, Chaired by the Party National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje
“The APC state executives of the party from all the 36 states of the federation and Abuja held with the National Working Committee members and chaired by the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in Abuja over the impending protest” Dan Fulani Said.
“I find it very imperative to lend our party’s voice to make this call due to the Security situation bedevilling our dear state of Zamfara and the need for Nigeria’s stability as one united nation” He added.
“There’s the likelihood of criminals who have continued to make life highly unbearable to the people taking over the protest and making the security situation worse, so let’s think wisely to avoid wanton destruction of our country in the name of protest because most of the countries that carried out such protests in the past, are now experiencing more difficulties than what caused the protest” He expressed worries.
“Like in Sudan the people protested for the hike of bread price but now they are buying bread at five times the cost before the protest price and a lot of citizens’ properties, government infrastructures, businesses, health facilities were all destroyed with many people homeless and turned refugees within their country and its neighbours”.
“The same thing in Libya, Syria, and most current one in Kenya so let’s resolve our grievances through negotiation and dialogue because no country will progress through protest that will lead to anarchy if highjacked by hoodlums”
Though the protest according to him is the expression of citizens’ constitutional rights, all channels of amicable resolution of the problem can not be said to have been exhausted hence the need for more time for the government to fix things right
“As Muslims, Islam abhors protests and for the fear that no one can tell the extent of damage such protests could cause, it is better to find other avenues of settlement”
The Zamfara APC chairman insist that President Bola Tinubu has a listening ear and will act according to the concerns raised
“Our President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a listening leader who is doing his best to make Nigeria a better place to all”
Danfulani further commend President Tinubu for the recent local government council autonomy at the supreme Court
“President Tinubu is only president that took the Nigeria governors to supreme court in order to ensure that government at the grassroots is fully functioning which I believe with local government areas having full autonomy, issues of unemployment, insecurity, hardship and other criminalities will become history in the country”
“So let’s support him in that direction through goodwill and prayers for the benefit of our future generations”
The APC warn citizens against been instigated by hoodlums against the government that is working round the clock to address key issues for the betterment of the country
“We are civilised people. We should not be instigated by the enemies of our country who are abroad enjoying with their families and can not even come near the protest venues but can only watch and comment on social media”
“Life is beneficial to its owner, and health is precious to human beings. Living in peace is gold, so let’s unite for all”.
