Kebbi State First Lady, Hajiya Zainab Idris has called on women in the state to cultivate gardens to boost food production in the state.
The governor’s wife disclosed this during an inspection visit to her garden at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, in line with the Renewed Hope Initiative Agricultural Scheme of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Some of the crops under cultivation are maize, vegetables, tomatoes, citrus fruits, sweet and Irish potatoes as well as other varieties.
Hajiya Zainab Nasare stated that her garden would serve as morale booster to other women in the state to imbibe the advocacy of Nigeria’s First Lady for “Every Home a Garden”.
Nasere announced that a national competition will be held later in the year to select the best female gardener in the nation with a star prize of 20 million naira where the gardner with the best garden will represent Kebbi State at the national event.
After the inspection she encouraged all women to engage in gardening to feed their families and be part of the competition.
The Kebbi First Lady also operates a fish pond in the spirit of food security.
