The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of several foreign nationals suspected of sponsoring protests involving the display of the Russian flag in various parts of the country.
This announcement was made by Police Commissioner Salman Garba following a security meeting with Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf on Tuesday.
Commissioner Garba stated that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, will take decisive action against anyone attempting to compromise the security of the state. He also announced a further relaxation of the curfew, now set from 6 am to 6 pm.
The #Nationwideprotests, which have swept across the nation in response to widespread hardship and hunger, took an unexpected turn on Monday. Protesters in some northern states were seen holding up the Russian flag while chanting several anti-government songs.
The incident has sparked significant reactions from the security chiefs. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Mustapha condemned the act, describing it as a treasonable offence.
