A Libyan driver has been apprehended in the Bishr area on Tuesday, 13th August 2024, for attempting to smuggle six female Nigerian migrants.
The information available indicates that the driver, who is suspected of being involved in human trafficking, falsely claimed that the Nigerian nationals were his family members to evade arrest during routine police patrol.
Meanwhile, all individuals involved have been transferred to the Bishr Police Department for further legal action.
The Issue of human trafficking has been a major one in Nigeria with several dozens of Nigerians repatriated from traffickers weekly at a point by the International Organisation for Migration from Libya and other parts of the World.
The Federal Government of Nigeria also established the National Agency For the Prohibition Trafficking In Persons, NAPTIP to tackle the scourge of Nigerians trafficked to other parts of the world who end up as prostitute and some time in slavery.
