Minister of State for Defence Mohammed Bello Matawalle said they are in Sokoto to flush out the bandits terrorising northwest region and making life difficult for citizens.
The minister stated this in Sokoto when he arrived from Abuja in compliances to the directives of President Bola Tinubu that instructed the minister to relocate to Sokoto to supervise the operation of troops fighting banditry alongside the service chiefs.
He arrived Sokoto in company of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa and other top military personnel.
He said Nigeria is a lawful country governed by law and the leadership cannot fold their hands and watch some elements threatening to destabilise the nation.
While in Sokoto the minister also address troops of the Operation Hadarin Daji and encourage them to brace up for the task ahead as the political leadership is standing solidly behind the troops to eradicate activities of banditry in the entire country.
He also visited injured troops and assured them of the government resolved to take their welfare very seriously as he donated five million naira for the injured personnel.
He was at the Sokoto state government house to solicit the support of the state government in ensuring the accomplishment of the mission in Sokoto.
Sokoto state governor Ahmad Aliyu who assured the minister of the government support also cautioned politicians to stop politicizing security situation in the country.
