Taraba state commissioner of police has confirmed the killing of five kidnappers terrorising Ardo – Kola local government area of the state in a gun battle.
Mr David Iloyonomon says the command in a joint operation with local vigilante also rescued four abducted victims in their custody.
He made the disclosure in a telephone interview with Tvc News stressing that the suspects engaged police and members of the vigilante group in a gun battle before luck ran against them.
According to him the incident happened in the early hours of Saturday when his men mobilised to rescue four persons abducted in a raid at Komi village in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of the state by the bandits.
He said that the vigilante group of the village alerted the police who joined forces to trail them before the gun battle took place.
The State Police Commissioner said that the kidnappers ambushed the security operatives when they were chased to rescue the four kidnap victims but due to superior firepower, fled.
He noted that kidnappers have to abandon two of their victims when the hot chase intensified, and proceeded deeper into the bush.
