Benue State Police Command has arraigned three suspects, Banky Tersugh, Sesugh Iorver and Aondoaseer Jude of Gboko town before a Makurdi Chief Magistrate Court on charges of criminal conspiracy and gang-raping a 15-year-old girl.
Reading the First Information Report, FIR, the prosecuting police officer, Inspector Adama Adama informed the court that the father of the victim, Success Anikpa, on the 17th of October, reported to the police that he sent his daughter to buy some items from a woman in Gboko when the accused along with five others dragged her into a thatched house, tied her hands and mouth before forcefully having sexual intercourse with her one after the other against her will.
He stated that during police investigation, the three accused were arrested, while others are still at large.
The prosecuting police officer argued that investigation is still in progress and asked for adjournment, while the accused plea for clemency was rejected for want of jurisdiction.
Ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Peter Ogwuche, ordered that the suspects be remanded at the Federal Correctional Center Makurdi and adjourned the case to 30th of December for further mention.
