The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure through the Presidential Implementation Committee has awarded grants to six female engineers for their outstanding innovative ideas through the Delt-Her project.
Speaking at the award ceremony in Abuja, the Executive Vice chairman of NASENI says the grant is to support the female engineers in bringing their Innovative ideas to reality.
Women and girls are underrepresented in engineering profession following various factors like Stereotypes and Cultural Bias, Lack of Role Models, Workplace Culture and many more.
On 8th of March, 2024, the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure through the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer launched Developing Engineering Leaders through the DELTA -Her project.
The DELT-Her project is aimed at addressing the existing gender imbalance in the study and practice of engineering and technology in Nigeria.
The agency sponsored the innovative ideas of young female engineers which over a 100 applications were received and six outstanding innovative ideas were selected for a grant.
Six months down the line these six female engineers are being recognized and celebrated for their amazing feats.
The event also provide the agency the opportunity to commemorate the international day of the girl child where young female exhibitors were provided the opportunity to present their inventions.
The innovative ideas of the awardees include Artificial Intelligence sensored machine, Automobile brake pads produced from organic waste, Drone for intelligent real time security and target tracking.
