Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has appealed to organized Labour in the state to reconsider their planned two-day warning strike.
The strike, scheduled to commence at midnight on November 24 and end on November 26, 2024, is aimed at pressing for improved working conditions and welfare benefits.
Governor Otu made the appeal during the 5th edition of the Solemn Assembly, held at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar.
He emphasized his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of workers, including clearing backlogs of gratuities, regularizing pension payments, and implementing overdue worker promotions.
The Governor who was represented by his deputy , Peter Odey, also highlighted significant infrastructural improvements across the state, including road construction and renovation, rehabilitation of government buildings, and enhancement of the health, agriculture, and education sectors.
He maintained ,Governor Otu’s administration has shown its commitment to improving worker’s welfare in Cross River State. Notably, the administration increased the minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦40,000, a move that preceded the Federal Government’s announcement of a ₦70,000 new national minimum wage.
The Solemn Assembly, themed “Ebenezer: A State Helped by God,” featured a special prayer session for the state,the Governor, his family, Traditional stools and other top government officials.
The event also included a presentation of gifts to the officiating minister.
