The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has announced that the search and recovery team has located the wreckage of the Sikorsky SK76 helicopter, registration 5N BQG, which went down on October 24th off the coast of Bonny Finima in the Atlantic Ocean.
The helicopter, operated by Eastwind Aviation, was carrying eight individuals when it ditched into the sea.
The wreckage was identified during recovery dives, located approximately 0.775 nautical miles from the FPSO Adoon, at a depth of 42 meters.
NSIB’s Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, highlighted the importance of this discovery, calling it “a major step forward” in understanding the incident and providing closure to the families affected.
Additionally the NSIB Director-General Captain Alex Badeh Jr. commended the allied team and partners for their efforts, emphasising that a thorough investigation will now proceed.
