The Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has signed into law the 2024 Local Government Bill which seeks to empower the the various councils to operate independently without undue interference.
The law is inline with the supreme court judgment, granting financial autonomy the local governments.
The new law abolished the Joint account between the state and local governments to ensure that funds are paid directly to the local governments account.
The law also abolished Development Areas and introduced Area Administrative Councils in the State.
