The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed a fatal accident involving Christian faithful who were on procession from Tumfure community escorted by Policemen along Bauchi road on their way to the Emir’s Palace.
The procession was also scheduled to visit government house but was suddenly driven into by a Toyota Sharon Vehicle loaded with Rice with unknown registration number and an unidentified driver.
22 persons were injured in the procession but no life was lost according to the police.
The Injured victims have however been evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe and the Sate Specialist Hospital for prompt medical attention.
The vehicle was burnt down by an angry mob while the driver escaped to an unknown destination.
The State Police Command however confirmed that efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the fleeing driver.
A combined team of Police operatives led by the DC Operations of the State Police Command and the Christian Association Of Nigeria leadership have been mobilised to ensure their is no breakdown of law and order.
The State Police Command promised to continue to monitor the situation while also urging the people to remain calm as investigations continue into the incident.
