Jigawa State, Governor Umar Namadi has ordered the arrest of officials involved in diverting agricultural inputs meant for farmers in Jigawa State.
The governor’s directive is the outcome of a his visit to the input distribution centers across the state where he uncovered widespread irregularities in the distribution of agricultural inputs under the National Agricultural growth scheme ànd Agro- pocket program.
He discovered that Agro-dealers were selling subsidized inputs intended for farmers to marketers, thereby denying the farmers of their rightful allocations.
Governor Namadi further urged the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to urgently address the situation by replacing corrupt Agro-dealers.
The governor’s investigation revealed that farmers were being forced to pay additional charges of ₦5,000 to ₦10,000, despite the federal government’s 50% subsidy on the inputs.
The governor has vowed to take further action to prevent corruption in the agricultural sector, including replacing corrupt Agro-dealers and strengthening oversight mechanisms.
