President Bola Tinubu is expected to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill before a joint Session of the National Assembly on Tuesday the 17th of December .
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio announced this at the close of Plenary on Thursday through a letter addressed to the national assembly and read on the floor of the upper legislative Chamber .
The day’s business began with a point of order raised by Senator Osita Ngwu, the Senate’s Minority Whip.
He addressed the Senate’s invitation to Julius Berger, a construction company awarded the contract to reconstruct the Calabar Odukpani highway, which they had disobeyed.
The Senate, aggrieved by what it believes is a blatant disregard for its legislative authority, particularly by members of the executive arm of government in similar cases, issued a warrant of arrest against the contractors. This move aimed to send a strong signal to other defaulters.
In another development, the Senate has established an Adhoc Committee, chaired by Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, to investigate the demolition of structures within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) authorized by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The Senate’s attention was drawn to this matter by a motion moved by FCT lawmaker Ireti Kingibe, supported by Natasha Akpoti, the lawmaker representing Kogi Central.
The President of the Senate concluded the day’s proceedings with a highly anticipated announcement from the Executive arm regarding President Tinubu’s 2025 Budget proposal.
