As Christmas approaches, Jigawa State people are experiencing the effects of soaring food costs.
With just a few days till Christmas, the costs of food and critical commodities in Jigawa State have soared, leaving many locals concerned about how they would afford the basics for the holiday season.
A market survey conducted by TVC News in Jigawa State revealed that a medium basket of tomatoes now sells for N35,000, while a large basket goes for N50,000, representing an increase of over 50%.
Similarly, the price of one sack of pepper has increased to N65,000 for large sacks and N31,000 for medium sacks, indicating a 47% increase.
The price of grains has also seen a significant increase, with some commodities recording over 100% increase compared to previous years.
At the animal market in Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, the prices of rams, goats, bulls, and billy goats have all increased significantly.
This development has left many residents of Jigawa State worried about how they will afford the basic necessities for the Christmas celebrations.
