A violent clash between farmers and herders in Jigawa State, has killed at least nine people and critically injured four others.
The incident is the latest in a string of clashes between the two factions in Jigawa state, which have resulted in severe loss of life and property.
Violence erupted in Jigawa state’s Miga and Jahun Local Government Areas.
Some eye witnesses confirmed that the conflict began when a group of suspected Fulani miscreants stole a large quantity of hibiscus and other valuable items from a shop in Gululu village, Miga Local Government.
Farmers tracked down the thieves’ footprints to a Fulani settlement camp in Yankunama village, Jahun LGA, where they were confronted with bow and arrow fire, resulting in deaths and injuries.
According to DSP Lawan Shisu Adam, Police Public Relations Officer, the violence escalated when people gathered and assaulted the Fulanis, setting fire to their homes in different locations of Miga and Jahun LGAs.
He further stated that police personnel from the Miga and Jahun Divisions were dispatched to the location to establish peace and order.
The Jigawa police headquarters verified that nine bodies had been collected and transported to Jahun and Miga Hospitals, where the medical doctor on duty confirmed their deaths.
