Displaced persons returning to their ancestral land in Seven out of the thirteen displaced council wards of Gwer West local government area, have appealed to Governor Hyacinth Alia to scale up security deployment and boost confidence that will enable others return home.
Blessing Aguwa, a middle aged woman from Mbacholom ward where many were killed and displaced, said this when officials of the Benue state government visited to assess their gradual reintegration and return to agriculture which is their main source of livelihood.
Internally displaced persons who fled from Anguhar community, Injaha and Gbangetongo wards, are gradually returning to their ancestral land.
wards like Mbacholom and Mbachoho, are part of the seven council wards out of thirteen where suspected herdsmen attacks forced rural dwellers to flee.
Their communities are in the hinter lands with no access roads or social amenities, local residents cry for help as the state government promises to address these needs.
The traditional ruler commends Governor Alia’s effort in ensuring the return of the displaced persons to their ancestral homes.
For over thirteen years, these IDPs were unable to set foot on their ancestral homes where they lost more than 577 relatives in 141 violent attacks on Gwer West local government alone.
