The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Abdulganiyu Jaji, has issued an urgent call to fuel station owners and tanker operators to address the reckless driving habits of their drivers.
In statement signed by him, His appeal follows a devastating fuel tanker explosion in Niger State that tragically claimed over 60 lives and left many others severely injured.
CG Jaji highlighted the critical need for immediate action to enhance road safety, especially on major highways and dangerous bends.
The fire chief underscored the importance of revisiting and strengthening safety protocols governing fuel transportation across the country and expressed deep concern over the increasing frequency of tanker explosions and other fuel-related accidents.
According to him, even minor incidents, such as static sparks or gas leaks, can escalate into catastrophic explosions, underscoring the urgency of stricter adherence to safety measures by stakeholders.
