Spain’s former football federation president, Luis Rubiales has been found guilty of kissing player Jenni Hermoso without her consent and ordered to pay a fine of more than 8,000 pounds.
As Spain’s players received their medals after defeating England in Sydney to win the 2023 Women’s World Cup, Rubiales grabbed Hermoso by the head and kissed her on the lips.
The incident triggered protests and calls for his resignation.
Prosecutors had demanded a prison sentence for Rubiales, who last week told a court he was “absolutely sure” Hermoso had given her consent before he kissed her.
Rubiales, 47, was accused of sexual assault and coercion over allegations he tried to pressure Ms Hermoso into declaring the kiss was consensual.
The court ordered him to pay a fine worth more than 10,000 euros ($16,300), but acquitted him of the charge of coercion.
In a statement, the court said it had also banned Rubiales from getting within 200 metres of Ms Hermoso or communicating with her for a year.
