Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has directed the Ministry of Agriculture to procure and deploy chemicals to combat a strange disease affecting rice farmlands in parts of Shanga Local Government Area.
The Governor gave the order on Thursday in the course of his ‘Thank You Visit’ to Shanga, where he expressed gratitude to the people for their support in the 2023 general elections.
He assured farmers that the government would intervene swiftly to mitigate the impact, particularly in Duggu, Gebbe, and Kukuni, known hubs of rice production.
In recognition of Shanga’s significance in agriculture and commerce, the Governor also pledged to consider the construction of additional roads in the area.
Ahead of Ramadan, the Governor announced plans to distribute truckloads of food items to the citizens and reiterated his commitment to subsidizing Hajj exercise for intending pilgrims.
In a major political development, the entire PDP executive committee of Shanga Local Government, along with over 500 members, announced their defection to the APC.
The defectors include ward chairmen, local government executives, the PDP vice chairman, youth leader, and women leader.
