The Bauchi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the heartbreaking death of a 24-year-old woman, Wasila Abdullahi, who was allegedly beaten to death by her 50-year-old husband during a heated argument over Ramadan meal preparations.
The incident, which has left the community in shock, occurred on the evening of March 1, 2025, around 11:30 pm in the Fadamam Mada area, near Government Girls College, Bauchi.
According to CSP Ahmed Wakili, the Command’s spokesperson, the suspect, Alhaji Nuru Isah—a businessman at the Bauchi Central Market—reportedly attacked his second wife, Wasila, following a dispute over food ingredients and fruits meant for their Ramadan iftar (breaking of the fast).
What started as a disagreement quickly spiraled out of control.
Isah allegedly struck Wasila with a cane, causing her to collapse and lose consciousness inside their home.
She was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced her dead.
In the wake of the incident, the police swiftly arrested Isah and recovered the cane used in the assault as evidence.
Wasila’s body has been taken to the mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, has vowed to ensure justice is served.
He also took the opportunity to address the broader issue of domestic violence, urging the community to prioritize respect, empathy, and understanding in family life. “Violence within the home is not just a private matter—it’s a crime with serious consequences,” he emphasized.
The police are now calling on residents to speak up and report cases of domestic abuse. “No one should suffer in silence,” the statement added. “If you or someone you know is in danger, reach out to the authorities immediately.”
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of domestic violence. As the investigation unfolds, the community is left grappling with the loss of a young life and the urgent need for change.
