President Donald Trump has awarded the prestigious U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom to motor racing legend, Roger Penske in a ceremony at the White House.
The 82-year-old Penske began his career behind the wheel before starting Penske Automotive and turning it into a worldwide business with 63,000 employees but is most well known for his success as a motor sports team owner.
Penske owned cars have won 18 Indianapolis 500’s, including the 2019 edition with Simon Pagenaud at the helm, as well as two Daytona 500’s, the biggest event in the NASCAR series.
Trump has awarded the medal, the highest civilian honor in the U.S., to several sports figures, including golfer Tiger Woods and retired baseball pitcher Mariano Rivera.
