The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC is striving to live up to its mandate of safeguarding the health of Nigerians.
To this end the health agency on Thursday, destroyed expired and substandard products worth millions of naira in the nation’s capital Abuja.
Olive Nwoke-Onokwai reports that it is the flag-off of zonal destruction exercise and top officials in the health sector are on ground to witness the destruction of seized counterfeit products.
Some of the goods valued at over 7million naira according to the agency were voluntarily submitted while others were mopped up during routine operations, a success the NAFDAC boss attributes to inter-agency cooperation
And as the fire is ignited, the agency says it recognises the negative impact of open bonfire of counterfeit goods on the environment and appeals to the federal government to put measures in place to ensure a safer exercise.
It also appeals to the Nigerian public to work together with the agency by being mindful of products purchased while reporting suspicious activities within their immediate environment.
