A one-day legislative conference has advocated increased funding for committees of the National Assembly, for effective oversight.
National Assembly Correspondent, Joke Adisa, reports that Muhammad Ladan, the Director General, Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, who delivered the keynote speech at the national legislative conference, believes oversight is a critical function of the legislature and if properly executed, could tame corruption.
Other contributors said oversight will deepen democracy and enshrine accountability
Former Deputy Chief Majority Leader of the Senate used his opportunity at the podium to counter those calling for a return to Unicameral legislature, saying call emanated from misinformed opinion.
Participants at the one-day legislative conference agreed that Nigerians need to be more sensitized on the need for lawmakers to hold Ministries, departments and agencies of government accountable.
