Finding solutions to some life threatening diseases such as cancer was at the front burner of deliberations at the summit.
Nigeria has one of the highest cancer mortality rates in the world.
Approximately four out of five cases results in death, according to the Global Cancer Observatory.
The pharmacists explained that these chronic and acute diseases which include cardiovascular diseases and neuronal degradation could be caused by the oxidants.
They say these oxidants also impact on the body’s aging process.
They believe there could be better outcomes in the treatment of these diseases if citizens consume foods rich in anti-oxidants such as fruits, ginger and some vegetables.
Other keynote speakers at the three day conference extensively discuss the role of medical plants and phytochemicals in mitigating oxidative stress and inflammations.
The pharmacologists are also calling for massive education on healthy lifestyle and eating habits to avert the scourge of these life threatening diseases.
