The Prime Minister of Finland Antti Rinne has resigned from office after a key coalition partner, Katri Kulmuni withdrew her support from his five-party Cabinet.
Mr Rinne stepped down on Tuesday after facing heavy criticism over how he and a fellow party member in charge of government companies dealt with Finland’s state-owned postal service Posti, whose workers went on strike for two weeks in November.
Kulmuni queried Rinne’s role in containing the strike on Monday but added she wanted the five-member coalition to look out for a new prime minister to run the affairs of the nation.
The announcement prompted the formal resignation of the Cabinet made up of Rinne’s Social Democratic Party, the Center Party, the Greens, the Left Alliance and the Swedish People’s Party of Finland.
