European Champions, Liverpool have named a 23-man squad for the FIFA Club World Cup which holds in Qatar this month
Liverpool’s first match at the tournament of continental club champions will take place less than 48 hours before their English Carabao Cup quarter final clash against Aston Villa.
Only four players from the youth team would join a strong squad which includes 18 regular first team players led by Captain Jordan Henderson, Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah
Liverpool’s appeal for a reschedule of the Carabao Cup game against villa was rejected by the English FA, prompting the club to bring up players from the Youth team to beef up the side ahead of a busy winter schedule
Joel Matip and Fabinho have been left out of the squad as they both continue their respective recoveries from injury.
18-year-old Welsh right-back Neco Williams, Liverpool-born midfielder Curtis Jones, teenage summer signing Harvey Elliott and 19-year-old forward Rhian Brewster have all been called up to make the trip to Qatar, rather than stay to face Villa.
